Qubits Parts Connection

This photo shows a possible connection of Qubits parts – edge to edge. Sadly, there is no way to connect pieces edge to edge and form a flat structure, these pieces will always form an angle. The only way to make a flat things is to use sockets in the pieces’ surfaces.

Qubits is a small toy brand making very interesting and unusual building sets. Qubits sets have only two types of pieces – rectangular planks and multi-triangular pieces.

The multi-triangular pieces look like they are made from many connected triangles. They can connect to each other with the matching holes and pegs in the triangles’ centers. Each of these pieces has the same shape, but, connecting and overlapping, they create strong, flexible openwork structures. They can create any shapes and forms, flat or 3D. However, triangular shapes are the most sturdy and resilient ones.

There are also rectangular pieces, that can connect with multi-triangular ones both with the edges and with the openings on their surfaces. These pieces can also connect to each other. Both shapes come in multiple colors, often random, colors. Together, these two shapes can create many surprising and fascinating crafts. Sadly, Qubits have no extra pieces like wheels, so the number of moving crafts and toys is somewhat limited.

Qubits are big enough to be safe even for toddlers. However, these sets can be confusing for the smaller children, so the recommended age is 6+.

Quercetti Isotta Discovery Car Top View

Another look at Isotta Discovery Car by Quercetti.

This is one of the simpler Quercetti gear sets. It has big and colorful pieces and allows you to build a mechanical toy car. The frame is transparent and shows all the mechanisms. This toy has 2 steering wheels, a 3-piston engine unit, a gearbox with 2 gears and a neutral setting, a differential unit, and a steering wheel. The fan on the car’s front end also rotates. Kids can see how all these mechanisms work.

This car shows how the wheels steer when you turn the steering wheel. You can see how the piston engine or gear transmissions work. Since the manufacturer recommends this set for 3+ years of age, all the tiny pieces are locked inside the bigger parts. This way, children can’t swallow or lose them. And, educational quality aside, it’s a good toy car to play with.

This is a building kit because you will need to assemble the pieces yourself. However, there are little to no different building options – the car consists of very few bulky pieces. The chassis is small, and there is only one way to place all the parts on it to connect them. Quercetti Isotta Discovery Car is a good educational toy, but it’s not very fit for creative building.

Full-Size CatDog!

A cartoon creature we made from Clics blocks. These eye pieces are a miracle, they make any animal so lovely! And its body is sturdy enough to act as an armrest (with caution).

ClicsToys is a Belgian company that was established in 2001. It makes the well-known Clics building blocks in its own factory in Kempen. Clics building sets have square pieces of identical form and shape. They easily connect at their edges, creating joints you can move.
With These plastic squares, you can create surfaces and fold them into 3D shapes. There are endless possibilities, even though Clics have very few extra pieces and accessories. Some sets have wheels and decorative panels, but this is pretty much it. On the other hand, Clics sets usually have many pieces, so you can create something truly complicated from just one set.
Since the basic pieces of Clics are squares, all the basic forms you can assemble from it are cubic or brick-like. However, thanks to the movable joints, you can assemble them at different angles, creating different shapes.
There are ways to create triangular or sloping figures if you assemble the pieces just right. The cubes, however, are the most sturdy and reliable structures this set can offer. There are also a possibility of creating a flat mosaic, combining the pieces of different colors.

K’NEX Jungle

The jungle leaves are actually the nearby plant. The tripod construction is made from 100 craft knex kit, and I don’t remember when the monkey came from.

K’Nex comes in two sizes: regular and mini K’Nex. It also includes both thick and thin rods, and some rods can connect the larger and smaller pieces together. Some sets, like 100 craft Knex kit, have only regular pieces.

Like other K’Nex sets, this one features pieces that securely lock together. You can easily take apart your creations and use the pieces to build something new. Regular K’Nex pieces have stronger connections, making crafts sturdy even during active play. Mini K’Nex creations are a bit more delicate.

Although the crafts you can make with K’Nex can be quite large, some of the pieces, especially the mini ones, are very small. This can make K’Nex sets risky for small babies who might accidentally swallow the pieces. These small parts can also be a bit challenging for younger kids to assemble correctly. That’s why it’s recommended for children aged 7 and older to use K’Nex sets.

It’s also worth noting that most K’Nex sets don’t provide detailed crafting instructions. Some packages may only show completed toys as examples. However, thanks to the versatility and creative possibilities K’Nex offers, this usually isn’t a significant issue.

Clics Day Nap

A dollhouse we made from a Clics building panels. It’s big enough for Baribie and her child, and holds together pretty well.

K’NEX Tank

A fantastic tank we made from K’Nex. The top structure won’t stand exactly straight, but it holds in place surprisingly well. Made from 100 model Knex kit.
