If you gently turn the upper part of the left castle (the part ending with the green circles), the lower part will turn slightly as well. And so the association was born.

So very unusual castles! May I know the builder’s name and age? Tatiana, please tell me the size of the parts and the finished structure, do the parts hold together strong enough?
The age of the builder at that time was 15 years.
The size of the structure is approximately 10-12 in.
Size of some parts:
Blue triangle – side 1 in, thickness 0.3 in.
Black rods – length 5 in, thickness 0.3 in.
Red rods – length 1 in, thickness 0.3 in.
Yellow cylinder – diameter 0.4 in.
Cylinders at the base of the left castle – height and diameter 1 in.
Large blue circle in the left castle – diameter 2 in, height 0.6 in.
Cubes at the base of the right castle – 1 in.
Parts connect well, especially large ones. You don’t need to select the poles. Crafts with lots of small pieces in them are not always stable and strong enough (the magnets in small pieces are also small). So it is not always possible to play these crafts, sometimes you can only admire them. In this case, it is better to place the craft on a magnetic surface. You can also use small pieces as a magnetic mosaic.
Thanks for the answer. In your opinion, as a specialist, which set is better to buy for a 5-years-old, transport or architecture? And is it possible to make some vehicles from the architecture set?
Thanks for calling me a specialist ๐
The Architecture set, for example, doesn’t have inch-high beveled cylinders, or, if I may say, parallelograms (children call this piece โhillโ). We use them in ships, as bows and sterns. There is also no flexible wire, but, to be honest, the children never used it for something other than the fire truck hose and the tail of some animal, and you can always find a replacement for it. There are more large pieces in Architecture, but you can still build some objects from Transport.
Architecture is a solid set, with a lot of details, and its made for older children, I would define it’s age category as 8+. It will be even more interesting for a teen than for a elementary school child. However, this does not mean that you can’t buy it now, for a 5-year-old and play for the next 10 years ๐
I would definitely buy a Playground instead of our Transport – my main players are 4 daughters, and they would be more interested in this set. But 3 years ago, when it was almost impossible to buy this constructor outside of Korea, I didnโt have such an opportunity, I took it, no, I grabbed it :), what it was. However, the girls love to build cars, and have built something of their own. But we still consider the playground set, even after we added Animals and iGeo. to our collection.
By the way, what are your child’s preferences?
YOU ARE THE SPECIALIST AND EXPERT, no one has more experience, knowledge and testing than you!!! My son loves architectural buildings more. And often, no matter what he’s building, he ends up making ships. This is is why he was interested in a set of vehicles. But we have our doubts, because my son never builds according to schemes, he loves to invent himself.
Do you think the Playground has good potential? Based on this, would it be more suitable for us?
Thank you, Mary! It’s always nice to read such words :))) Yes, I remember your ship from Duplo castle blocks. We liked it very much ๐ I think that the Playground has a good potential, there are a lot of multi-colored small parts in the set. The set attracted my girls with multi-colored rings and arcs. There are also big pieces. If yourson likes to fantasize, then he can build a ship, a castle, and anything he wants ๐ And the transport has a good potential :))) The choice is yours ๐ By the way, the schemes proposed in the album are not step-by-step, just photos of models. So you can use them as a basis, making your own changes during construction.
Thanks for the answer. Then we will start with Transportation, and then we will decide if we need anything else after trying it. I really like magnetic constructors, especially wooden ones. Tell me please, have you ever played with Woodymac?
Well, then I’m waiting for crafts ๐
We too really love magnetic construction sets, and there are more and more of them every year. About 8 years ago, we were madly happy with the big balls and sticks of Magneatos (or Bornimago) – we built from it all day long. And now we canโt get enough of Smartmax, it turned out that itโs interesting not only for kids ๐
I thought that balls and rods were the limit of potential, but over the past 10 years wooden constructors with various shapes appeared. And again we just can’t pass by, and perhaps Genii Creation is the most successful of the wooden ones ๐ But everyone is good, each in their own way ๐ Woodymac, however, is very rare and expencive, very few sets was ever released. I also can’t call it magnetic, there is only a magnetic connection of the corners, while the panels are attached to the grooves. But the idea is sooo interesting – kids love to build big houses.
I also liked the interesting and simple idea of ingenious housing construction, my friend told me about these sets. Apparently, I need to reconsider my opinion about Smartmax, because I thought that it was for children no older than 5 years old. And what kits would you recommend?
Oh, Smartmax is now a hit, and I can’t advise to buy it – the budget is bursting at the seams because of it. The positions of the wanted toys are constantly moving in favor of Smartmax ๐
In general, at first this magnetic constructor (we met it in 2011) did not promise sensations – balls and rods, nothing original. Some time ago we bought flowers to complement our Magtastik. I thought we’d stop there. But then we decided to buty a couple of cars for our one-year-old to play in the car. And after we held them in our hands, we decided that it would be necessary to expand the assortment, we really liked the cars – strong, bright, nimble. Again, magnets and cars were the favorite topic of little Afonya. Fortunately, I found an orange barrel (French version of the set package), it had a certain number of parts for creating a variety of cars, some rods and balls. The son played with pleasure, nothing fell apart in his clumsy hands. In the meantime, with some help from the younger daughters, we got an additional number of balls and rods – small metal balls (by the way, they roll perfectly in Lego Duplo pipes), they connect really well well with sticks. The sticks are bright, they do not fall off the balls, the magnets in them are strong. We also combined them with Magtastik.
Six months later Santa brought a set with 2 slides and a magnetic house. I thought that onlythe younger ones would play – a 2-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter, they bought a house for her, but 8-year-old Arisha also wanted to play. She even cried. But there were not enough details. And so it started…
Now, on the occasion of my son’s birthday, we have opened 2 large sets with pipes (I will post a photo in the near future), we have been playing for a week already. A set with a bridge is waiting for its time to shine, but something tells me that we wonโt be able to resist until the New Year ๐ Everyone is still asking for a new house with shutters… Then again, we only have 2 roofs, but we want more… So, as you see, Smartmax really captured us. If they release something interesting, I’ll go broke ๐
This turned into a strange ode to Smartmax ๐
Smartmax hooked us, of course, with cars and slides – we constantly build garages with slopes. Flowers are always in demand in any magnetic game and with any magnetic constructor. Roofs simply conquered us, wherever you add them – the place immediately turns into a palace. Now here are the pipes – balls 3-year-old son loves to roll thing around. He built pipelines from Duplo, but Smartmax pipes are stronger. The frame of the building needs to be properly strengthened though. The youngest son (18 months old) is simply fascinated by both balls and cars moving down the hill, besides, the cars in his hands do not crumble and he is already able to roll them himself.
