Geometric Fantasy
10-year-old Nate made her first contribution to the collection of crafts made from this Knex regular sized kit. Don’t you want to build Soma cubes from the K’Nex construction set?
The K’Nex construction set was invented by Joel Glickman, who, while bored at a party, twirled cocktail straws in his hands and tried to connect them in different ways. This is how he got the idea of the set – flexible sticks and their possible rigid connections. The set first appeared in 1993 in the USA. You can read about the features of the parts on Wikipedia. Since 2001, the manufacturer added the Lego-type parts in the construction set for greater variability in models, especially to the models with space themes. Probably it had some connection to the release by Lego of the Star Wars series. You can check the entire variety of K’Nex for children aged 2 years and older on the K’Nex website.
We made this ornament from K’Nex pieces of regular size. This type of K’Nex is not very popular in our family. This is probably because started to introduce the older kids to K’Nex with Knex regular sized kit and they were not very interested. The mini K’Nex and kid K’Nex had much more success.
Lizard
We made it with Alesya using the GEOMAG KIDS Panels sets, improving it during the assembly process. We started making a turtle, but it turned out to be something with ears, eyes, and a long tail. Alesya confidently named it a lizard. The strong magnets easily allowed us to carry the creature to the balcony so it can enjoy some fresh air and eat some grass.
Iotobo Magic Forest
Result of younger daughters working together. There was a job for everyone. In the center mother and daughter Trees on a walk in the forest. The youngest Christmas Tree is a healthy child, so she has a carrot in her hand. Butterflies fly around, mushrooms and flowers grow. The sun is a necessary attribute of optimism and good mood, of course, so it is also present. There is also a wasp – and it is no coincidence, since that this year we had a huge number of wasps. And if at first the children ran away from them, after a few days even Alesya knocked them off course with light snaps of her fingers. So the wasp in the picture was based on a real one.
Hungry Giraffe
This summer, I fell in love with the Tegu constructor even more, and not only for its amazing ability to keep active 5-year-old Alesya busy during a long car trip. But also for a strong box that can withstand of rain, sand, and Alesya’s feet. Both cubes and cardboard are good in Honduras!
The Japanese Variant Of Magna-Tiles – Pythagoras
From People brand. There are 64 parts in the set, but without a platform with wheels, as in the original American set.
Magnetic Construction Sets For Toddlers
On the left – American Magneatos, an analogue of the big Bornimago for kids. In the center – Magtastik with metal balls. Right one is Japanese Magnet Block.
The Viking Boat
A magnetic frame viking boat sailing on a voyage.
K’Nex Poodle
Arishka got a Kid K’nex Pixie Princess construction set for her 4th birthday. She spent several days building only with it, using only some elements from other sets.
Zoob Dinosaur
A very good-natured dinosaur made from a small ZOOB construction set. In front of the dinosaur lies a standard size red ZOOB bone. Zoob made these interesting sets before, maybe they will restore them…
Back in 1997, inventor Michael Grey introduced Zoob, a toy inspired by the science of motion and organism development. Zoob represents an acronym for Zoology, Ontology, Ontogeny, and Botany. Each set has rod-like pieces with joint balls and sockets on their ends. Each of these balls has small bumps on its surface, so the joints can both move and stay in a certain position if you need them to.
This innovative toy features a ball and socket connection system, mimicking the natural movement and design found in people, animals, and machines. With just five basic shapes, Zoob offers 20 different ways to connect them together.
Zoob building sets have won awards because they’re different from regular building blocks. They use plastic pieces that snap together, like gears and joints, to build all kinds of objects, limited only by your imagination. After you build something from a big or small ZOOB construction set, you can actually play with it – the pieces were designed to move after being assembled, so you can have fun with the toys you create.
Zoobs are great for helping children improve their fine motor skills. The pieces are small enough to easily manipulate and put them together, but they’re not too tiny like some other toys, so it’s easier for kids who find small objects tricky.
